Project description
Baťův kanál, o.p.s. has identified the following three objectives it would like to address in the field of education:
01. How to engage the general public in the region, its history, and the discovery of new things ▿
We would like to discover new ways to reach the public while improving existing approaches so that they can better engage with a diverse audience (we believe that collaboration will help us in this, as this is a challenge faced by nearly every organization with a similar focus). We want to modernize and innovate the creation of educational content with the aim of not only attracting attention but also stimulating people’s natural curiosity and motivating them to actively seek out further information on their own. In setting these goals, we realized that it is important to consider factors such as the integration of experiential and educational elements, a focus on specific age groups, and the use of modern forms of online education. Only in this way can we raise awareness and foster long-term public interest in the topic.
02. Educational programs for people with disabilities ▿
In addition to wheelchair users, this includes people with visual or hearing impairments who require special assistive devices, as well as those with intellectual disabilities or special educational needs. Our goal is to learn how to involve all these groups equally and effectively in educational activities and how to properly support their interests and individual needs.
03. Environmental education and the natural observance of ecological rules ▿
Given its length and the many stretches where it passes through uninhabited areas, the Baťa Canal allows visitors to observe interesting flora and fauna. Our goal is to inform visitors in an appropriate manner about what they are likely to see or encounter. Just as in other places, it is important to guide visitors toward nature conservation, especially since they often navigate freely through the landscape without supervision. We plan to draw inspiration and best practices from our partner organization, as we believe this is an area with similar challenges and opportunities for nature-based education.
Who we will collaborate with on these activities
For our main collaboration, we have chosen our partner organization in Lithuania, with which we have signed a memorandum of cooperation. Specifically, this is the Kaunas Regional Development Agency. You can find more information about the progress of our collaboration and the signing of the partnership agreement here »
Planned Project Implementation
A total of 3 visits are planned:2× Job shadowing in Lithuania
Staff from Baťa kanál, o.p.s. will travel to Lithuania to observe their colleagues at work in a real-world setting. This active observation of procedures will help transfer proven international best practices to our waterway.
1× Visit by experts to the Czech RepublicExperts from Lithuania will visit at the invitation of Baťa kanál, o.p.s., to share their specific know-how. The goal is direct expert consultation and methodological support in addressing technical and organizational tasks directly in the field and during waterway operations.
Project outputs for individual activities
(what we want to focus on here):
01. How to engage the general public in the region, its history, and learning new things ▿
- Here, we mainly want to address where and in what form to target the public so that, for example, educational materials reach a specific target group
- We need to identify which approaches have proven effective and where, conversely, the resources spent were ineffective
- We want to be able to prepare introductions to educational materials that are engaging and, at the same time, enhance the overall “WOW EFFECT”
- If we already know which educational materials have proven effective elsewhere and can create engaging introductions for them, it is equally important to prepare the overall educational content in a similar manner
- We want to learn how to create engaging content that captures the public’s interest and helps spark their motivation to seek out further information
- We would also like to incorporate other factors into the materials we create, such as: effectively combining experiential and educational elements, targeting specific age groups in education, and utilizing modern forms of online education
02. Organizing education for people with disabilities ▿
- We want to adopt inclusive teaching methods that enable the active participation of all participants regardless of their abilities
- We would like to explore options for structuring the schedule and format of events to accommodate diverse needs
- Our goal will be to determine how to create teaching materials for people with various disabilities
- We want to learn how to test and optimize materials with the target group and gather feedback to improve them
03. Environmental education and the natural observance of ecological rules ▿
- Our primary focus is on identifying the teaching methods used for this purpose and the resulting practical impacts (how these rules are observed)
- We are also interested in the content of the educational materials themselves and how they connect to other educational activities in this area
This is a preliminary plan. Detailed descriptions of each visit will be available (after they take place) on specific subpages here »
