The originally Renaissance Chateau of Bishops from Olomouc is one of the town dominants. The chateau can be proud of its rare art collections, the Chamber Hall and the Tsar’s Room commemorating the meeting of Tsar Alexander III with Emperor Frantisek Josef I. The local gardens are not less valuable – both the Chateau and the Flower Gardens rank – along with the Chateau – among the UNESCO Monuments.

THE TOWN OF KROMĚŘÍŽ – THE MUSEUM OF LOCAL HISTORY 28 D

In its seat on Velké náměstí (the Great Square) the Museum of Local History presents the exhibitions devote to the regional history and nature and the famous native – Max Švabinský. Among the exhibits, one can see, for example, the Celtic findings from the near oppidum. The Museum manages also the open-air museum in Rymice, the chateau in Chropyně and the windmill in Velké Těšany.

NATURAL PARK – PONDS OF ZÁHLINICE 29 D

The natural park includes the Nový, Pláňavský and Doubravický ponds, the adjacent meadows and the alluvial forest in the locations called Filena and Zámeček. Among others, there live 11 species of rare amphibians, while 135 species of birds nest here.

BRDO LOOKOUT TOWER 30 B

The lookout tower on the Brdo hill at the altitude of 587 m above sea level was opened to the public in 2004 as the very first stone-built lookout tower constructed in our country since the 1930s. For its design, architect Sládeček was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Community of Architects.

ZLÍN – A TOWN OF FUNCTIONALISM 29 F

Zlín is a unique example of a functionalistic town in Europe. The most beautiful view of the town opens up from the upper terrace of the “twenty-one”, a 77,5-meter-high skyscraper from 1938. Along with the House of Fine Arts, which was built as a Tomas Bata Monument originally, the skyscraper is the most distinctive dominant. However, the typical factory buildings and the colonies of Bata single family, two family and quarter houses fro housing the company workers.

Zlín offers some remarkable museums. The most famous on is the Shoe Museum that belongs to the oldest museums of its kind in the world. ZOO ZLÍN-LEŠNÁ 29 F

NAPAJEDLA – STUD, TOWN HALL AND CHATEAU PARK 31 A

Napajedla made its name especially with English purebred horses that are bred since 1886 at the local stud. In summer, the stud management offers group excursions. Noteworthy sights are the town hall in the square, the chateau from the 18 th century, which was in possession of the Bata Company before the World War II, and the valuable chateau park. The park is opened to the public, as opposed to the chateau.

HUŠTĚNOVICE- INSTRUCTIONAL PATH 31 C

The path near the Bata Canal presents the survived remnants of the so-called soft meadowland along the Morava River. In spring, interesting flowers, such as yellow iris or water violet, burst into bloom and during nesting season, one can hear rare nightingale here.

TOPOLNÁ – FARMSTEADS No. 90 AND 93 31 D

Two farmsteads from the 19 th century stand in the middle of the village and they rank among the monuments of folk architecture. The houses are opened to the public upon an agreement in advance. In the farmsteads, one can see how the people lived in the past - how they laundered, dried fruits, smoked meat or bred bees.

MODRÁ – OPEN-AIR ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM AND LOOKOUT TOWER 31 C

The open-air archaeological museum in Modra shows how the old Slavs lived and worked more then eleven centuries ago. Those who are interested can try to work on the pottery wheel or to shoot with bow and arrow or with a sling. Moreover, they can see a reconstructed Great- Moravian church from the 9 th century whose foundations have been discovered here. The near lookout tower offers a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape with the Chriby Mountains and the Morava Vallye.

VELEHRAD – THE BASILICA OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY AND ST. CYRIL AND METHOD 30 D

The Cistercian monastery from the 13 th century and especially the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Cyril and Method are the core of this most important pilgrimage place in Moravia. Even Pope John Paul II graced the place with his presence. The lapidarium in the crypta documents the appearance of the original late-Romanesque monastery.

BUCHLOV CASTLE 30 D

The Gothic castle of Buchlov situated on one of Chriby hill, ranks among few castles that were never captured. From its tower, a wonderful view of the Morava valley opens up. The more than two thousand years old Egyptian mummy with a cedar coffin and a sarcophagus is obviously the greatest unique object in the rich castle collections. The House of Berchtold, the original owners of the castle, left it behind. Their family tomb at the chapel of St. Barbora is worth of a 10-minutes-walk.

Buchlovice Chateau 30 D

The Baroque chateau located at the foot of the Chriby Mountains acts rather as a reminder of a nobility seat in sunny Italy. The richly decorated rooms with stylized furnishing attract for a visit. The large informal garden offers wonderful sceneries. The vinotheque in the chateau cellar and a unique sale-exhibition of fuchsias rank among the much-sought-for sights within the chateau area.

TUPESY – MUSEUM OF LOCAL EARTHENWARE 30 D

The exposition in the Museum of Local Earthenware, which is located in a historical small house from the year 1838, shows the life of a folk potter in the past and gives an overview of the history and presence in the production of traditional majolica in Tupesy. The visitors can try some production techniques, or to buy the traditional or modern earthenware from the local workshop.

POLEŠOVICE – WINE CELLARS 30 F

The small town of Polešovice is situated at the southeastern foot of the Chriby Mountains. Rich archaeological findings substantiate the settlement as early as in the early Bronze Age from which the most voluminous treasure of its kind with 800 fractions of different bronze objects, which was discovered here, comes. Dominating the village is the church of St. Peter and Paul. Polešovice is famous not only for its large vineyards, orchards and for the grapevine breeding station, but especially for the top quality of wine produced at the local cellars.

STARÉ MĚSTO – GREAT-MORAVIAN MONUMENTS

In Staré Město, two important monuments from the period of Great Moravia – the fortified site called Na Valách and the settlement Na Špitálkách - can be found. Around the foundation of the cemetery church Na Valách, the permanent archaeological exhibition, the Great- Moravian Monument, has been built. This exhibition documents the life in one of the centers within the Great Moravian Empire. At the site Na Špitálkách, the church foundations from the mid-9 th century have been discovered and partially reconstructed.

STARÉ MĚSTO - LOOKOUT TOWER – LIGHTHOUSE 31 C

The lookout is located in the industrial zone, in the premises of the KOVOSTEEL Company, at the motorway to Brno. The company deals with waste disposal and the lighthouse is a symbol showing the “way in the sea of waste”. It lies 187 m above sea level and its height is 27 m. From the upper platform, one can see the wide environs of the Chriby Mountains. The lighthouse accommodates the exhibition of photographs documenting the lighthouse construction, and the author’s exhibition by Bronislav Janeček. UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ – HISTORICAL TOWN RESERVE 31 C

The historical town reserve includes the safeguarded medieval core of the ton of Uherské Hradiště with two large squares, a connecting street with the town hall and a complex of Jesuits´ buildings. Above individual buildings tower, for example, the Baroque Franciscan monastery with the Church of the Annunciation, the Baroque armoury - today the Slovacke Museum Gallery , the Slunce Hotel – the only maintained Renaissance building in the town, the Old Town Hall or the parish church of St. Franciscus de Xavier.

In its main building in Smetana Municipal Park, the museum presents the exhibition about the style of life and folk tradition in the region of Moravian Slovakia. UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ – ROVNINA LOOKOUT TOWER 31 C

The lookout tower on the Rovnina hill above the district called Mařatice offers a view of the Morava Valley, the Chriby Mountains, the White Carpathians, the Hostynske Hills and the Vizovicka Highland. The lookout tower on a 49,5-meter-high transmitter pylon is accessible from April to October.

UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ – MAŘATICE – WINE CELLARS 31 C

For centuries, the Mařatice town district has been one of viticulture centers in the region of Uherské Hradiště. Some of local cellars, which began to be built as early as in the 17 th century, are listed monuments of folk architecture. The houses no. 247, the wine-bar “U lisu” today, or No. 244, 260 and 381 rank among the most interesting ones.

The discovered remnants of a significant church complex from the period of the Great Moravian Empire are listed national cultural monuments. Špitálky is considered for a site where the famous thief Svatopluk may have been buried.

KUNOVICE – AIRCRAFT MUSEUM 31 E

The Aircraft Museum in Kunovice exhibits about 23 military aircrafts, airliners and sports aircrafts among which more than a half was manufactured in the local works. The fighting and training two-seater C-11 (Jakovlev) belongs to the rarest exhibits because only some pieces have survived.

KUNOVICE – INSTRUCTIONAL PATH “THE KUNOVICE FOREST”

The instructional footpath running through the alluvial forest can attract the adults and the children. In spring, there live rare spring tadpole shrimps in the pools, related to extinct trilobites; in the forest, one can see stag beetles or rose beetles. In the forest park, there are a playground, a sandpit and jogging trails available.

KOSTELANY NAD MORAVOU – INSTRUCTIONAL PATH 31 C

The instructional path connects the important village sights. It leads the visitors to the portal bridge over the Morava River, which was built in 1912 and is listed as a technical monument and to the natural monument called Tůň (Pool) with occurrence of protected amphibians. This footpath is 1,5 km long.

J. A. Komenský´s Museum documents the life and output of the famous native as well as the traditions and history of the region of Uherský Brod. The visitors can see the original figure of so-called Black Jack whose replica rings the town hall bell until now. Uherský Brod is known for its brewing tradition – the visitors to the Janáček Brewery can taste the local beer during their tour.

VLČNOV – KOJINY WINE COTTAGES AND THE MUSEUM OF FOLK HABITATION 31 F

Many noteworthy monuments of folk architecture have survived in Vlčnov. A real jewel is the area with wine cottages (press houses without a cellar) in Kojiny trail that is listed as the historical village reserve. The house No. 121, 301, 65, 770 and 80 and the chamber at No. 47 are protected, too. In addition, there is an exhibition of folk habitation and traditional framing tools at the homestead No. 57.

HLUK – STRONGHOLD AND FOLK MONUMENTS 31 E

Hluk is known especially for the local stronghold and folk sights. The stronghold that was mentioned for the first time more than seven centuries ago, serves today as a community centre with a library, a café and halls for different occasions. At the tower, there is a museum and a farmhouse parlour for small events. The houses No. 283 and 284 document the style of habitation in the country between the 17 th and 20 th centuries.

UHERSKÝ OSTROH - CHATEAU, GALLERY AND VINOTHEQUE 30 F

The chateau whose present appearance is resulting from the Renaissance reconstructions in the 16 th century, is dominating the town of Uherský Ostroh. Since the World War II, the chateau has served for the municipality. Nowadays, the local library and the Chateau Gallery organizing regular art exhibitions are placed here. In the chateau cellar, the Regional Vinoteque “Moravian Wine Valley” has its seat.

The noteworthy historical cellars below the Old Vineyard are situated in the place where Blatnický Roháč, a popular blend of Rhine Riesling, Green Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc comes into the world. The location is protected as a historical zone. One can have a look at the history during the visit to the local museum than exhibits folk costumes, historical sewing machines and irons.

BLATNICE POD SV ANTONÍNKEM – PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE 33 B

The local hill is called Sv. Antoninek according to the Baroque chapel from the 17 th century on its top. The largest crowds of believers visit the chapel consecrated to Saint Anthony of Padua in June where the main pilgrimages take place here. The end of August, however, offers also an exceptional spectacle – the thanksgiving pilgrimage in folk costumes fall on this date.

BLATNIČKA –THE MORAVIAN-SLOVAKIAN TRADITIONS 33 B

The principal mission of a company with the same name, which acts in the village of Blatnička and the town of Uherský Ostroh, is to develop the art-and-craft traditions of Moravian Slovakia. The Moravian-Slovakian Traditions Company offers also tasteful souvenirs, they can make folk costumes or their parts – with traditional techniques, of course.

KNĚŽDUB – THE PARENTAL HOUSE OF THE ÚPRKA BROTHERS 33 C

The parental house of the brothers Joža and Franta Úprkas, natives from the village of Knezdub, important painters and sculptors, bearers of regional traditions and cultural development of Moravian Slovakia in the first half of the 20 th century. This building as a unique jewel of folk architecture ranks among few typical representatives of the so-called “clay buildings” built in their times. It is a cultural monument listed by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The house stands in the middle of the village, near the local authority and the Wine Trail running through the village of Knezdub in the direction from Strážnice or Veselí nad Moravou.

The observatory in Veselí nad Moravou is a unique cultural facilities focused on popularization and education in the branch of astronomy and related natural and technical sciences. The observatory offers a wide range of lectures and talks for pupils of all school classes so it is a suitable aim for school trips. VNOROVY – FOLK TRADITIONS AND CABLEWAY 33 A

The village of Vnorovy is famous especially for its folklore, decoration Easter eggs and husk dolls. Near the village, there is a technical unique object – crossing of the Bata Canal with the Morava River. To overcome the strong stream in the river and the different level height, the boats with coal were supported by a cableway, locks and pipes hidden under the weir. The remnants of the cableway machinery can bee seen today.

STRÁŽNICE – CHATEAU AND CITY FORTIFICATION 33 A

The chateau, today the seat of the National Institute of Folk Culture and the unique exhibition of folk music instruments, is the most significant sight in the town. Noteworthy are also the remnants of the city fortification, the so-called Veselská and Skalická Gates that were a part of the fortification built in the 16 th century to protect the town from Turkish attacks. Unique is also the Jewish Synagogue surrounded by a cemetery on three sides – the survivor from the former Jewish Quarter.

STRÁŽNICE – THE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM OF THE SOUTHEAST-MORAVIAN VILLAGE 33 A

The Open-Air Museum of The Southeast-Moravian Village concentrates the examples of folk architecture from the entire region of Moravian Slovakia. It is also a venue of many interesting events. The most famous one is the International Folklore Festival; the wine tasting in March, the Closing of Vineyards in August and the Vintage Festival in September, the biggest vintners´ event in the environs, are popular as well.

TVAROŽNÁ LHOTA – TRAVIČNÁ LOOKOUT TOWER AND SERVICE-TREE MUSEUM 33 C

To see from the White Carpathians as far as to the Alps? The lookout tower above the village of Tvarožná Lhota offers even such opportunity on clear days. The exhibition devoted to the White Carpathians nature is a part of the lookout tower. Service tree, the biggest fruit tree in Europe, belongs to the White Carpathians and Moravian Slovakia inseparably. This tree has its museum and instruction path in the village.

KUŽELOV – WINDMILL 33 D

The windmill of the Dutch style from 1842 is listed as a technical monument. Nowadays, it accommodates a museum. In the mill, one can see the complete mill technology. In the residential and farm buildings, there is an exposition presenting the local habitation and farming at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. In July, the mill is a venue of the Folklore Festival of the Horňácko ethnographical area.

STRÁŽNICKÉ POMORAVÍ (MORAVA BASIN) – BROKEN-DOWN BANKS 32 B

The Natural Park Strážnice Pomoraví protects an example of the natural landscape in the Morava Basin – meanders, blind branches and mead forest. In the location called Osypané břehy (Broken-down Banks), the water has modeled up to 13-meter-high vertical walls of the riverbed in which rare sand martins and kingfishers nest.

RATIŠKOVICE – BATA RAILWAY SIDING AND MUSEUM IN A WAGON 32 A

The construction of the Bata Canal was in a direct relation to lignite beds near the village of Ratíškovice. Lignite served as fuel for the power plant and the heating plant in Otrokovice. From Ratíškovice, the coal was transported on the Bata mine railway (railway siding) on which one can make a trip in a pedal track rail car. The exhibition at the Museum in Wagon that has been installed in a historical wagon from the 1930s, presents the history of the sliding and the lignite mining.

CHATEAU MILOTICE 32 A

A visit to Milotice gives you the opportunity to see the four-wing chateau with splendidly furnished interiors, an honorary courtyard, a riding hall, a stable, two orangeries, a French park and the adjacent pheasantry. At the chateau, there is also a restaurant with vinotheque. During summer, the weekends are usually made varied by concerts, knight’s games, other interesting events.

PETROV – PLŽE 32 D

Plže near Petrov is considered to be the most valuable complex of wine cellars in our country. “Plže”, wine cellars excavated in clay and reinforced with cylindrical vault, had been built in Petrov since the 15 th century. The area with a maze of lanes and two “village greens” reminds of a separate village loving its own life and opening its arms for thirsty travellers all the year round.

SUDOMĚŘICE – TIPPLER 32 D

The tippler constructed in 1939 at the end of the Ratiskovice mine railway was used to tip the wagon with lignite into the boats that transported the lignite to Otrokovice. Today, the Tippler is a listed technical monument, a lookout tower and in its vicinity, there is one of the landing places at the Bata Canal.

SKALICA – HISTORICAL TOWN RESERVE, MONASTERY AND TRDELNIK 32 D

The “free royal town” Skalica belonged to the most important towns in Slovakia. A lot of monuments in the town centre, which has maintained its ancient character until now, substantiate its rich history. The complex of the Franciscan church of Our Lady of Sorrows and thy monastery ranks among the most important monuments. Some interesting events take place in the room of the complex – for example the so-called Trdlofest devoted to the local traditional sweet cake called “trdelnik”. Trdelnik was awarded the trademark of the European Union in 2007 as the first Slovakian product.

HODONÍN – MASARYK´S MUSEUM 32 C

Masaryk´s Museum in Hodonín has its main seat in a Baroque chateau from the mid-17 th century. In its rooms is located the only professional exposition devoted to T. G. Masaryk, which describes the particular periods of his life thoroughly. The last rooms are devoted to the history of Hodonín. In the exhibition halls of the chateau and the other museum building at 21, Národní Street, the short-time thematic exhibitions alternate during the year. The Masaryk´s Museum manages also the multi-purpose Europe hall in which the theater and music performances of all genres, as well as other cultural, exhibition and solemn events take place.

HODONÍN – ZOO 32 C

The Hodonín zoological garden, which is located in a nice environment of mead forest, keeps more than five hundred exotic and domestic animals in 150 species. About 70 of them are protected species. The latest addition to the zoo is the Berber lion that has become extinct in the nature.

MIKULČICE – SLAVIC FORTIFIED SETTLEMENT 32 C

The Slavic fortified settlement in Mikulčice, a branch of the Masaryk´s Museum in Hodonín, with its 10 ha large acropolis and outer ward is the largest archaeological site from the period of the Great Moravian Empire in our country. The discovered remnants of 12 churches, a feudal lord’s palace a more than two thousand five hundred graves indicate one of possible places of Cyril and Method’s activities cold have been located here. Besides jewels, chapes, guns and other articles of everyday use, the 10-m-long oak chiseled boats, which have spent more than 11 centuries under a wet soil layer on the bottom of the original riverbed, belong to the most valuable exhibits presented in two expositions.
